SO WHAT DOES IT COST?
This is a difficult one. No two videos are the same. Each differs in complexity and the “job” it is required to do. Variables that affect price are allocations for planning, scripting, logistics, shooting time, crew, artists, sets, props, wardrobe, format, equipment, location fees, editing time, audio final mix time, music fees and mastering. We pride ourselves in offering extremely good value for each video project we do whether it is a relatively simple video costing under R10 000 or a complex, layered project costing considerably more.
SO HOW CAN I KEEP COSTS DOWN?
Get your “ducks” in row. Fuzzy thinking costs money. The most cost-effective way to make a video is for you (the client) to first create a power-point presentation or ‘map’ which reflects the audio and visual content you want in your video. We can then use this information to accurately work out a cost-effective production plan that will suit your needs.
HOW DOES “GREEN-SCREEN” WORK?
We shoot against a special green background in studio and then in editing we replace the green part of the picture with a chosen image. This works great as long as the artist/presenter doesn’t wear any green. Pure white and stripes don’t work well on green-screen either.
DO YOU HAVE AN AUTOCUE/ TELEPROMPTER?
Yes we do. This allows you to read from your script while looking directly into camera. The big trick is to make it look like you are “NOT” reading. This takes a little practice. Make sure to give us a copy of your script in “TXT” format the day before shooting so that we can load it onto our autocue.
CAN YOU OFFER A DISCOUNTED RATE?
We have a special rate card for regular clients who do a lot of work with us. This allows for half day bookings and short edits, which is not cost-effective for one off videos. If you are thinking of becoming a regular – ask us about this.
DO YOU ONLY WORK IN CAPE TOWN?
No, we work all over South Africa, Africa and in fact have done work all around the world (USA, Europe, South America, Australia, Asia). For our Jo’burg, clients we share air travel costs and have access to our own accommodation.
CAN I GET STILL IMAGES OFF MY VIDEO FOOTAGE?
The answer is a qualified yes, but we don’t recommend it. You will always get better photographs using a dedicated stills camera. Video can only supply 2 megapixel still images at best. Fine for small web pics, but not much else.
HOW DOES YouTube WORK?
YouTube is the second biggest search engine in the world. We can help you set up your own YouTube channel and guide you through the different “Public”, “Unlisted” and “Private” security settings as well as the useful analytic data that is available. You are also welcome to upload on our YouTube channel and we’ll supply the link. This gives you more control than simply uploading directly to YouTube. With web videos it’s important to keep you videos short. Rather do a lot of short videos than one long one. YouTube viewers tend to like their meals often and in “Bite-size-chunks”.
DO YOU PRINT DVDs
No. Not in bulk. But we can put you in touch with a supplier who can do all your DVD printing. However, we do not recommend DVDs because they are only standard definition. Rather use FLASH DRIVES or YouTube.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO MAKE A VIDEO?
This is an interesting one. We’ve found that the more people involved, the longer it takes. Also, good organization is key to quick turnaround times. Our experience allows us to predict deadlines for each project pretty accurately and we are very good at sticking to them.
